Dear Client,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the manufacturer of Vetsulin insulin is requesting that we begin transitioning existing diabetic patients to other forms of insulin.  This is in response to finding that the long acting component of the product is not working as it should.  Thus, your pet could experience delays in duration or onset of action of the insulin product, thereby rendering their diabetic state as unstable.  Your pet may experience signs of hyper or hypoglycemia, such as increase thirst, urination, appetite, weight loss, lethargy, disorientation, or seizures.

We are recommending that the next bottle of insulin purchased through a pharmacy.  Unfortunately, new needles and syringes must be purchased as well because Vetsulin requires U-40 and Humulin N requires U-100.  All units are not equal and must be dosed on the appropriated syringes.  The pharmacy will have the appropriate syringes available when you purchase the insulin.

We will calculate appropriate doses of the Humulin N insulin for your pet and write a prescription.  However, this does mean that we will have to re-establish the appropriate dose of insulin with glucose curves.  The first curve will be one week after starting the new insulin.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is in regards to a product alert from the manufacturer Intervet/Schering Plough Animal Health.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call us or them directly at 1-800-521-5767.

Thank you,
