Microchipping with HomeAgain

How does a microchip work? A small chip is implanted by injection under the skin between the shoulder blades. This chip has a unique identification number which will be linked to the pet and its owners through the HomeAgain database. This number appears when scanned by a shelter or veterinary clinic and is also printed on a collar tag. When identified, the owner will be notified that their pet has been recovered and where they can be found.

When should I microchip my pet? Anytime is a good time to have your pet microchipped. It only takes a moment to implant and can be done during a normal appointment. If you are planning to have your pet under anesthesia in the near future, that would be the optimal opportunity as the injection would be pain free.

How much does microchipping cost? There are two fees associated with micropchipping: implanting and registration. HomeAgain charges a $24.99 up front registration fee that covers a life-long membership in which they will keep your contact information in their database. It also includes a year’s worth of additional services including free 24/7 Animal Poison Control Center consultations, lost pet alerts to local veterinarians, shelters, and pet rescuers, lost pet posters, online medical information, and pet ID cards. Please call our office for exact prices on implanting.
